In these reliquary pieces, Willie uses found objects, narrative text, acrylic paint, and ruff-hewn wood to celebrate the extraordinary nature of everyday life on his father’s tobacco farm in Eastern, North Carolina.
According to Willie, found objects “…found him in the most serendipitous ways and the narrative text on the pieces seemed to write itself as if channeled from my ancestors, and written in the style of an old soul… with emotion.”
Willie explains, his family’s tobacco farm off Sticks Road, near Little Washington, NC, was a place where “…life seemed as rich, as the soil beneath our swollen feet…”.
