As a child artist, Willie was fascinated with structures. At an early age he wanted to be an architect and imagined himself as the new Mike Brady from The Brady Bunch tv series. He liked drawing structures… including what he called “…daddy’s jerry-rigged store and tobacco barn…” , structures that his father built on their farm in the Pactolus Township near “little” Washington, NC. Willie states that they “…were put together with Bazooka blow gum and a prayer, but they held up through the test of time, hurricanes and tornados…”.
In 2019, Willie created these beautiful replicas at a residency at the Ash Street Project in Portland, Oregon. There are a few pieces currently available for your collection. Contact Froelick Gallery in Portland, OR for more information.
